watched this video yesterday.
intro-ed by nic.
It's about this 5 year-old girl who was born blind, but am able to play out any piece of music on the piano by ear. What struck me was not so much about her talent, but of her background.
This lil girl was adopted. No one knows why her natural parents left her, but one reasonable possibility could be because of her disability. And because they gave up on her too soon, they never came to discover their daughter's amazing talent. Their daughter's blindness blinded them from seeing the possibility of a miracle.
What is truly remarkable is her foster parents' willingness to accept the blind girl, and raise her up as their own. I'm sure they had other choices. Healthy orphans with no disabilities. Who can move and jump and play without aid. But they chose her. A couple with no obligations, no blood relations, they chose to accept her disability and to love her as their own. Wow.
It was only after they'd adopted her that they realised her God-given talent. I can imagine God smiling down at them, saying, "Surprise! You thought you knew, but I know better."
Indeed, God knew better. Being blind is one major disability. But it was precisely this disability that made her talent shine all the more beautiful. God specialises in turning our weaknesses into strengths. :)
